Dr. David Rodriguez, EVP, global chief human resources officer for Marriott International (No. 9 on the 2016 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list), explains why it’s important to make sure you’re attracting the most diverse top talent to your company and describes the people-centric culture that has helped Marriott be so successful.

During DiversityInc’s fall conference, “Best Practices on Conquering Recruiting Challenges,” on September 14 in Newark, New Jersey, Dr. David Rodriguez, EVP, global chief human resources officer for Marriott International (No. 9 on the 2016 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list) discussed how Marriott has succeeded at attracting top talent in his presentation, “Talent Magnets: How to Ensure That The World’s Best Diverse Talent Selects Your Company!”
The importance of attracting diverse talent is only going to become more important overtime, Dr. Rodriguez emphasized; therefore, companies have to constantly reinvent their business models to keep up with changing times.
He also explained that the need for transparency is continuing to grow as the growing workforce of millennials “demand diversity and inclusion” in companies they wish to work for, saying “there’s no hiding anymore.”
Milliennials don’t want to be part of a “cookie company,” he noted.
Dr. Rodriguez also described Marriott’s employees as being a family — a value that has been engrained in the company’s DNA since it was founded. “Running a company in a people centric way … directly impacts performance of the company,” he said.
